THE
FIRE LAW HAS CHANGED
The
Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 was approved by Parliament
on 7 June 2005, this became law on 1 October 2006.
As
part of the Government's commitment to reduce death, injury and
damage caused by fire, DCLG (formerly the Office of the Deputy
Prime Minister) are reviewing the fire safety law and are proposing
to make a number of changes through the Regulatory Reform (Fire
Safety) Order (RRO). The proposed changes will apply to non-domestic
premises and will come into force in October 2006 throughout England
and Wales*. The RRO will replace most existing general fire safety
legislation, for example, fire certificates will be abolished
and will cease to have any legal status. The new fire legislation
will cover fire precautions and other fire safety duties which
are needed to protect people in case of a fire in non-domestic
premises.
Who
will be affected by the new legislation?
Primarily
employers and building owners will be affected by the new legislation
but it could be anyone who has some control over premises. The

will I have to do?

my fire certificate be enough?
No, Fire certificates will no longer be valid.
